Visual Representation : From Doodles to Mindmap

Participants Feedback of the session

Time: 2:30 PM
Venue: ISB&M Auditorium, Kolkata

Speaker : Mr. Akash Mondal

“ I would recommend the short story form, which is a lot harder to write since you have to be so careful with words, until there is plenty of time to doodle through a novel.” – Anne McCaffrey

Akash Mondal

Our next speaker, Prof. Akash Mondal elaborated on the aspects of doodling. From the definition of doodling to its various usages. From its birth to its importance, all such topics were discussed. His explanatory was complemented with an apt slide show on doodling.

He put forward the theory of doodling through real and practical examples. Doodling is about portraying thoughts, ideas, and information through pictorial diagrams. He spoke about different uses of doodling like story boarding, mind maps, visualization, data repesentation etc. According to Prof. Akash, to be an advertising creative or for that to be of any creative background, one need not know drawing at the level of excellence. Even a general person who can hold the pen and can give a picture to his imagination, thoughts or information (in other words can doodle) can easily become a person of creative excellence.

To anchorage this point, Rene Auberjonois, a famous American actor said, “I would hardly call myself an artist in that sense; I doodle, I draw, I’m not a trained artist, I couldn’t sit down and do an accurate portrait of any one.”

Participants

The students were given an assignments on data represention through doodling. Around 7 to 8 groups of 8 members each were made. Each group was given a situation on which they had to prepare a mind map to come out with varied solutions. It was a very exciting task and the students enjoyed the session a lot.
